NANA Celebrates Grand Opening of the Hunter Building with Qupak Cutting Ceremony

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — Aug. 25, 2026

NANA will celebrate the grand opening of its newest property, the Hunter Building, on Friday, Aug. 28, 2026, with a ribbon-cutting event that reflects both the company’s growth and its deep connection to Iñupiaq culture.

The Hunter Building is owned by NANA and serves as the Anchorage home for several of its Alaska-based subsidiary companies, including NANA North, NMS, NANA Construction, Kuna Engineering, and Qavvik Air. By bringing these teams together under one roof, the building creates new opportunities for collaboration, shared services, and stronger connections among employees, business partners, and shareholders.

“The Hunter Building is more than office space,” said Brad Kuuġnaaluk Osborne, NANA VP of Operations. “It is a visible sign of how far NANA has come and how much we can do when our companies stand together in one place. This milestone belongs to our businesses, our employees, and our shareholders.”

In place of a traditional ribbon, NANA will cut a length of qupak, pronounced “KOO-puck.” Qupak is the decorative trim sewn onto traditional Iñupiaq parkas and regalia. It is made from many small pieces of fabric or fur, carefully cut and stitched together in repeating patterns. On their own, each piece is simple. Together, they form something intricate, meaningful, and beautiful.

The qupak theme was selected because it reflects how NANA is built. Each subsidiary business, employee, and shareholder is one part of the pattern. Individually, each contributes important work.

The Hunter Building underwent a full renovation over the past year and a half. Criterion General served as the construction contractor, KPB Architects provided architectural services, and Creative Space curated important design and cultural features for the project.

The grand opening event will begin with a short qupak cutting ceremony and leadership remarks, followed by an opportunity for guests to move through the building and encounter cultural highlights on every floor. Each featured element will be interpreted through special plaques, posters or pop-up signage that connects the physical space to the culture, land, and people of the NANA region. The three floors are themed for subsistence from the land (first floor), water (second floor), and air (third floor).
