The 2022 Shareholder of the year is Cheryl Argagia The 2022 Shareholder of the year is Cheryl Argagiaq Edenshaw. Cheryl was born and raised in Kotzebue, a daughter of Sally and the late Frank Gallahorn. She says her inspiration comes from our people and particularly from the hard-working women in her life. 

Cheryl currently serves as a director of Kikiktagruk Iñupiat Corporation. She was the vice mayor of the Kotzebue City Council and vice chair of the Maniilaq Association board of directors. She served on the Native Village of Kotzebue’s Tribal Council, the Alaska Workforce Investment Board, the Alaska Commission of Education, the Kotzebue Advisory School Board, the Northwest Arctic Borough Economic Development Commission, the Northwest Higher Education Consortium, the Alaska Commission of Postsecondary Education, the Chukchi College Advisory Council, and the Alaska Native Health Board.
The 2022 Elder of the Year is Mary Maqik Schaeffer The 2022 Elder of the Year is Mary Maqik Schaeffer. Mary was born in Kotzebue and raised in Noatak and Sisualik, where in spring and summer they cut enough beluga, fish and seal to last through the winter. In winter, they checked snares for ptarmigan and rabbit. 

A strong advocate for our people, language and way of life, Mary has served on local, regional and state organizations, including the Tribal Council, the Northwest Arctic School Board, the State Board of Education and the Maniilaq Board. She has been a part of the Iñupiaq Language Commission since its beginning and is the current president.
NANA board officers are elected every year. At its NANA board officers are elected every year. At its board meeting on April 27, 2022, the board elected the following officers:

Linda Piquk Lee, First Vice Chair
Charlie Alasuk Curtis, Second Vice Chair
Bonita Qanailaaq Barr, Treasurer
Gladys Ikkaiyuk Jones, Secretary

The 23-member board is elected by NANA’s more than 15,000 shareholders. The board structure consists of two shareholder board members from each village in the NANA region (except for Kotzebue with one board seat), two at-large seats and a non-voting Elder advisor. Directors serve three-year terms.
NANA DIVIDEND ANNOUNCEMENT: At today’s board mee NANA DIVIDEND ANNOUNCEMENT: At today’s board meeting, the NRC Shareholder Trust declared a spring dividend in the amount of $6.00 per share, payable on or about June 1, 2022, to beneficiaries of record as of May 23, 2022. All NANA shareholders of record are beneficiaries of the Trust.

Shareholders must update your address, sign up for direct deposit or enroll a new shareholder by May 18, 2022, at 5 p.m. Alaska Daylight Time.
