13,000 Pounds of Halibut from SeaShare Distributed in Kotzebue

The United States Coast Guard C -130 touched down in Kotzebue on Oct. 2nd with 13,000 pounds of halibut from SeaShare, a national hunger-relief organization that engages the seafood industry in a collective effort to improve nutrition for people who are served by food banks and feeding centers.

The fish came from Ocean Beauty Seafoods and was divided up onto separate pallets for each one of the 11 regional communities according to the number of Elders in each community.  Elders received the fish first, then the balance will be given to families according to need.

NANA helped SeaShare coordinate the delivery in the region and worked with other regional organizations to offload the catch and conduct the delivery.
