NRC seeks to recruit for the position of:
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer and based in Anchorage, Alaska, the Chief Legal Officer and Corporate Secretary will work collaboratively with the company’s Board of Directors, external advisors, and senior leadership team. S/he will be responsible for all legal issues facing the company. In particular, s/he will focus on compliance and regulatory issues for NRC including its wholly-owned subsidiary, NANA Development Corporation with more than 60 operating subsidiaries, as well as general corporate matters, financings, litigation management, labor and employment, environmental law, land use, and mergers and acquisitions.
The ideal candidate has a minimum of 12 to 15 years of senior legal experience and significant depth of experience in or advising an Alaska Native Corporation as well as commercial, land use, employment, and mergers and acquisitions. This individual should have extensive experience with ANCSA law, including shareholders rights as well as attendant policy and governance issues. Ideally, s/he would have foundational experience in a large law firm handling a range of regulatory, corporate and commercial matters followed by at least 3-5 years of experience in a Chief Legal Officer or similar legal leadership role for an Alaska Native Corporation organization.
An advanced degree in law (Juris Doctorate or equivalent) and fluency in English are required. NANA Shareholder Preference Policy applies.
