Anchorage, AK Message from Helvi Sandvik, NDC President
Hello to the NANA family of companies.
Today we are publishing the first edition of the NANA Development Corporation electronic news bulletin. The electronic format will enable us to get word out quickly about projects, new companies, new faces, outstanding people, upcoming events and little known facts about our diverse and far-reaching NANA family. With more than 50 companies in the NANA system and more than 5500 employees, there will be no shortage of interesting topics. If you have NDC business news to share please pass it on to NDCnews@nana.com.
NANA’s Oil, Gas, Mining companies team up.
gas and mining rotates between
business units. Steve Schwicht,
of Alaska Testlab hosted the
September meeting.
Working together is the goal of a team representing 14 NANA companies involved in oil, gas and mining support services. The group meets monthly to discuss upcoming projects and ways for the companies to collaborate to win contracts. The monthly conversations are beginning to pay off. In the past month, several companies were able to bid together on upcoming pipeline maintenance projects and other joint efforts are in the works.
“NANA companies have tremendous capabilities,” said NDC president, Helvi Sandvik. “Our four engineering companies employ more than 600 engineers here in Alaska. We can team with Purcell for security on our projects, we can train our workers through NANA Training Systems, and we can count on NANA Management Services for all of the comforts of home.”
Prudhoe Bay, AK We Walk the Line
Purcell Security has contracted with BP to provide up to 48 people to conduct tests of the oil transit lines on the Prudhoe Bay oil field. A recruiting team made up of Ron Adams, Lori Butler, Martha Cervantes, Lee Cromwell and Gary Ramoth went to all NANA region villages to recruit and hire up to 30 shareholders. The NANA region workers will be able to travel to the North Slope on direct charters out of Kotzebue. Twelve people were also hired out of Anchorage. Director of Security Ron Otte said, “This contract exemplifies how our business units can help NANA shareholders enter the job market. The shareholder development team jumped into action to help us fill the positions on this contract.” Otte said the project started in September and is expected to last for several months.
New Faces/New Roles
A beefed up ops team:
NANA has beefed up its business development and operations capabilities. Jim Mendenhall was named business development manager in June. Mendenhall, who formerly worked for many years in the oil field support industry, will be focusing on increasing resource industry business.
Operations Manager, Fred Smith, has joined NANA following several years managing a multi-million dollar health service agency. Smith will work on solidifying relationships with existing clients.
Carolyn Smith, promoted to operations manager from her previous shareholder development position, has taken on several projects, including the remodel of the NDC offices in Anchorage and the design of a new Nullagvik hotel in Kotzebue.
“I am so pleased to have filled these critical positions,” said Sandvik. “We are poised to enter a whole new age at NANA and we have excellent people on board to help us move to the next level.”
Kristina Patrick named shareholder development manager.
A critical part of the NDC mission is to create job opportunities for shareholders. Kristina Patrick has moved from her former paralegal position in NANA's legal department to a new role where she will work directly with managers, administrative units, and outside organizations to implement programs that advance the placement and career development of shareholders.
Linda Adams moves to legal department.
Linda Adams, formerly in NANA’s payroll department, has moved to the paralegal position formerly held by Kristina Patrick. Adams will be working towards a paralegal certification.
